ASTM A252 is a standard specifically developed for use with pipe pile steel tubing.
ASTM A252 applies to pipe piles in which the steel cylinder acts as a permanent load-carrying member, or as a shell to form cast-in-place concrete piles.
Grade 2 and grade 3 are two of these grades.
A252 is divided into three grades with sequentially enhanced mechanical properties.
They were: Grade 1, Grade 2, and Grade 3.
Grade 2 and Grade 3 are the most commonly used grades in ASTM A252, and we describe the properties of both grades in detail next.
ASTM A252 can be manufactured by seamless, resistance welding, flash welding, or fusion welding processes.
In pipe pile applications, seamless steel tubes provide excellent support due to their high strength and uniform force characteristics.
In addition, seamless steel tubes can be manufactured with very thick wall thicknesses, which allows them to withstand greater stresses, further enhancing their reliability in support structures.
Phosphorus content not to exceed 0.050%.
