S355JOH is a material standard that belongs to low alloy structural steels and is mainly used for the manufacture of cold-formed and hot-formed structural hollow sections. Tolerance of Outer Diameter (D)
For outside diameters not greater than 168.3mm, the tolerance is ±1% or ±0.5mm, whichever is greater.
For an outside diameter greater than 168.3mm, the tolerance is ±1%.
Wall Thickness (T) Tolerance
Wall thickness tolerance based on the specific size and wall thickness grade (as shown in the table), usually in the ± 10% or so, for precise control of wall thickness applications, may require a special order.
Tolerance of Length
The tolerance for standard length (L) is -0/+50mm.
For fixed lengths, the tolerance is usually ±50mm.
specific lengths or exact lengths may have tighter tolerance requirements, which need to be determined in consultation with the manufacturer at the time of ordering.
Additional Tolerances for Square and Rectangular Sections
Square and rectangular sections have an outside corner radius tolerance of 2T, where T is the wall thickness.
Tolerance of Diagonal Difference
That is, the maximum value of the difference between the lengths of the two diagonals of square and rectangular sections, is usually not more than 0.8% of the total length.
Tolerance of Right Angle and Twisting Degree
Tolerances for straightness (i.e., the verticality of a section) and twist (i.e., the flatness of a section) are also specified in detail in the standard to ensure structural accuracy and overall appearance.
